We all want to feel less pain for birth right??
Well ill get right to it…. We all want to feel less pain for birth, don’t we??? But often we don’t like the many side effects that come with pharmaceutical methods of pain relief so apart from Hypnobirthing what’s the alternative??
Well, you can try tens machines…. But they can’t be used in the water.
You can try water …. but the pool may not always be available.
These are amazing options, but you can also add in a little wooden comb! Sounds crazy I know…stay with me.
Do I brush my hair with it?
The comb isn’t for your hair its for squeezing in the
palm of your hand. It is a form of acupressure (using the laogong point) and helps you cope with the sensations of birth.
How does it work?
It works based on what’s called the gate control theory (same way tens machines work). Basically, as you experience the surge/contraction you squeeze the comb into the palm of your hand and your brain gets sent two signals at the same time. Now we would like to think we are cleverer than this but were not, what happens is your brain gets the two signals, gets a bit confused and doesn’t know which signal to respond to, s
o it doesn’t tell you to feel the sensation!
Is it just for birth?
You can use the acupressure comb all the way throughout your birth and post birth too (after pains anyone) It is also safe in pregnancy if you have any sciatica or other aches and pains you want to counteract. To be quite honest
you can use it as a method of distraction for almost anything for the rest of your life… not bad for £6.99.
The comb itself is small and wooden so it fits into the palm of your hand, and you don’t break the teeth of it when you squeeze, its completely waterproof so you can use it in the pool without worry and it won’t give you any splinters don’t worry…it’s as smooth as a baby’s bum.
